MOUNT HOLLY - Robert Elmer Huskins, 84, of 2205 Stanley-Lucia Road, died Jan. 3, 2010, at Gaston Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Lincoln County, son of the late Thomas Dixon and Margaret Julia Kelly Huskins and was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Huskins; and two sisters, Thelma Myers and Nevada Mundy.

He was a longtime member of Alexis Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and taught the 10-year-old Sunday school class, and was a charter member of Lucia Baptist Church, where he oversaw construction of the church.

He was a member of the "Gospel Bluegrass Boys," loved music, farming, fishing and hunting. He was retired from Duke Energy after 38 years of service.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Ellen Hall Huskins; two sons, Robert Alan Huskins and wife Sheila of Holden Beach; Brian Craig Huskins and wife Robin of Mount Holly; a daughter, Robin Leigh Huskins of Stanley; two sisters, Betsy Stephens and husband Floyd of Stanley, Margaret Shufford of Concord; six grandchildren, Julia H. Lock and husband John of Walnut Creek, Calif., Laura Jane Huskins of Holden Beach, Callie Jo Huskins of Athens, Ga., Brian Nickolas Huskins, Austin Tyler Huskins and Cole Dixon Huskins, all of Mount Holly; a stepgranddaughter, Amanda Lynn Taylor of McCall, S.C., two stepgreat-grandchildren, Tyler and Brice Goins; and his special dog "Sassy."

Funeral service conducted by the Reverends Sandy Marks, Ed Yount and Malcom Ivey will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Alexis Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends at Woodlawn Funeral Home in Mount Holly from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday.
